A flat on the shoulder of a busy road is dangerous to change yourself, and driving on a blown tire wrecks the wheel and risks losing control. Getting it handled quickly and correctly — proper torque on the lugs, right pressure in the spare — gets you moving again safely instead of limping along on a doughnut you're not sure about.
