An oil change drains the old engine oil, replaces the filter, and refills with the grade and type your engine calls for — conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic. While the car's up, we top off the other fluids and take a quick look at belts, the air filter, and anything obvious so a small issue gets flagged before it grows.
Oil is what keeps the engine's moving parts from grinding themselves apart. Run it too long and it breaks down, sludges up, and lets wear accelerate — and that wear doesn't come back. Regular changes are the cheapest insurance there is for an engine, and the under-car look-over often catches a leak or a worn belt early.
Follow your manufacturer's interval — usually every 5,000 to 7,500 miles on synthetic, sooner on conventional or if you do a lot of short trips, towing, or idling. Don't wait if the oil-life light is on, the oil looks black and gritty, or you can't remember the last change.
