Why a Mobile Mechanic Often Beats a Tow

Why a Mobile Mechanic Often Beats a Tow

3 min readBy Rolling Stone Auto Repair

When a car won't start, the reflex is to call a tow truck. Sometimes that's the right move. A lot of the time, though, it just turns one problem into two — the tow bill and the shop visit — and costs you a couple of days you didn't plan to lose.

What a mobile mechanic can actually fix on-site

A stocked service van handles most of what a shop bay would: alternators, starters, batteries, brakes, belts, sensors, oil changes, and a long list of diagnostics. We carry the common parts, so a lot of repairs get finished on the first trip — no tow, no rental, no waiting room.

When a tow still makes sense

Some jobs genuinely need a lift and a shop — major engine or transmission work, for example. We'll tell you straight when that's the case instead of stringing you along. The point is to get you the right fix, not the most expensive one.

You see the work happen

There's something to be said for watching the repair in your own driveway instead of handing over the keys and hoping. You know what was done and why, and the price is up front before we start.

Broke down or just can't get the car to a shop? Call or text and we'll let you know whether we can come to you — most of the time, we can.
